    My last class at TU

My last class at Thammasat University Yesterday, 9th September 2007, is my last class at university before I go to study at UEA, Norwich, UK. For me, it feels like the end of some movies. Feeling lonely and sad seems to be the usual feeling that happens in this kind of situation. Besides the feelings, I think I’ve learned many things since I am a lecturer; even it’s only a few years. Firstly, I think I’ve learned how to be teacher, not just a lecturer. Being teacher is more than an instruction or lecturing. It’s about being a coach. Taking care of them and encouraging or inspiring is also the core of being teacher. The great teachers inspire their students. As a coach, they also must teach their students about the discipline and morality. Secondly, teaching someone is to tell them what you know, but to give them question and the sources of useful information and ask them what they know. By this way, they can learn not just study or remember, and teacher can also learn from student. However, this might be difficult for big classes, teacher can teach them how to think by this method, but may not be able to exchange ideas. Thirdly, teacher has to be both soldier and artist. Being soldier means you have to be disciplinable plan to do things and do what you’ve planned. Being artist means that you have to be passionate for what you are teaching or researching. Without these qualifications, it would be so hard to be a good teacher. Finally, this experience makes my morality stronger than before. It lets me know that teacher has 2 roles to their students. The first is to be a coach. The second is to be a referee. Being these 2 roles at the same time is so difficult and our mind must be clear and strong enough to deal with these situations because when you judge, you have to put down all your relationships with students and judge by cause and consequence. These lessons taught me a lot, not just for work as a lecturer, but for my life also. As I’m going to face new experience, I hope these experiences will help me ding my study and understand new things in life, … since life is a journey, every steps is a learning process.
